Mike Bowley or MickMacMike when he is nervous.....
Retired Ex-Pat and Anthropomorphic Storyteller.
Hola, my name is Mike, or MickMacMike if I am nervous. I am a retired English-born anthropomorphic writer who lives with my beautiful Colombian-born Cristirin and three bilingual cats in the north of Santiago de Cali. This is my proper outing as a budding writer of fact, fiction, downright lies, magic, history, and involving anything and anyone who may be considered oldish. Well, they do say to write what you know best, and I am 69 and halfway to 70.
Although all my characters and features have aged, they still have a soul. You, the reader, will witness life in three parts, with 72 chapters culminating in one finale on a mountain ridge in South America.
Together, inanimate objects, animals, birds, insects, trees and many characters come alive to the reader through their eyes as they all briefly come into contact with a strange-looking man with white hair, blue eyes, a red face, a pot belly, and sturdy-looking legs.
The same man who speaks little Spanish and appears out having a walk. This manuscript includes 700 pages with a word count of 260,900 and 58 Black and White illustrations at the beginning of most chapters. My next book, Liberators and Their Mighty Sabres will centre on stories in much the same vein as Adventures. Many of the historical characters, such as Bolivar, San Martin, Higgins, and Belalcazar, will meet up and travel together from Colombia to Panama, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and then back to Colombia once more. Lastly, I have a third book in my head that will tell readers who the white-haired man is and what his life entailed, titled A Wasted Life of Continuous Betrayals. With this account, all the stories will be true. Not bad for a child who could not read until he was thirteen and was told books and learning would not be of use to him by his father over 60 years ago.RegardsMickMacMike.

Hi Mike,
I enjoyed reading your book, and I love the anthropomorphism and creativity! I can identify with many of your travels, as I am also a keen hillwalker and conservationist. I actually like talking to trees—especially Ceibas here—as one wonders about the history they've seen and if they could talk….Congratulations on your great work! I'm glad you decided to self-publish!
I look forward to buying a copy!

From Roger Sleep- fellow ExPat and someone who spent over 40 years working on the Panama Canal and has lived on the Mountain Ridge of Dapa for the majority of that time: Many congratulations, Mike. This is an outstanding achievement. I read the whole 165 pages yesterday and was intrigued by the method you took to write it. At times, I wasn’t sure whether I was reading an autobiography, a history book, or a geography book, which led to my enjoyment. I really enjoyed the chapters that I could relate to personally, like Dapa and Panama.
I look forward to the next epistle. I shall look out for your name in the Pulitzer Awards!

What people say
Having read all the reports and noted the Editors' opinions, we can confidently state that your work was found to be a thrilling, absorbing, and attractive read. It is very well-written and has the potential to appeal to a broad audience.
The Board was delighted with the nuanced and compelling plot, which was well-conceived, developed, built and sustained by a fascinating cast of characters that are brought to life through their credible motivations and believable dialogue.
Your three-part structure creates a unique sense of scale and scope. Key to the work's success is the presentation of the narrative through the perspective of different inanimate objects. Although this highly unusual framing device draws interest, a distinctly human narrative concerning themes of hope, perseverance, travel, and the unknown underpins it all. Readers of the genre can invest in and resonate with this narrative, delivering a more fulfilling experience.
With clearly credible authorial observation and elements of an autobiographical character concerning our main characters, you succeed in anchoring attention and drawing an audience into your world through all its observations and creative narrative choices. The prose style is engaging and well-suited for the genre, being both commercially accessible and easy to read, demonstrating a keen awareness of the intended market.
Ultimately, it was agreed that 'Adventures, Barbarians, and Devil's Breath' was a well-written and accomplished novel worthy of attention. It would be a strong addition to our fiction collection and would have a place in the market.
